After his death he received recognition for his accomplishments as a naturalist and horticulturist by several journalists including Dr. Laver who wrote, "there was nothing he touched which he did not excel in"; he was also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. He was gentlemanly mannered man, and I always found him pleasant in all communications I had with him. He was quite the old style in dress with white stock etc. In the case of an attempt at murder of a young woman he ridiculed the idea of the wound having been caused by a pistol shot, he was quite certain and his colleagues too, but the shot was found at the P.M. I mention this to show the amount of his knowledge which was all on parö (P. Councillor for 3d Wardin1846. ôIn 6/6/1843 Mr. James Farreu informed me that several of his members of the Lion Walk Chapel have separated themselves from that Church and have hired this large room opposite and propose to having a preacher that will expand their doctrines will circumstances permit them to erect a more convenient place. The leading men among them is Mr. D. Morris and R. M. Savill: the latter attended the Wesleyan chapel for some time. This is another specimen of the evil arising from the DissentersÆ plan of electing their own minister but doubtless it would work if they were imbued with their Christian doctrine of loving their neighbours as themselves. û (William Wire, Colchester Clockmaker, 1750-1900.) Education: University College London & Edinburgh University MS8241B LSA 15/8/1850 Other information: Son of David Morris q.v. ôhe was for some years (1856-70) honorary secretary of the CMSoc in succession to his uncle Samuel Adolph Philbrick. A very cantankerous and evil disposed person was connected with the election petition of 1867 ,and is there represented as an ugly, pig headed person. During the later years of his life, he was active in spreading all the scandal that was rife in Colchester and in most cases he was the author. If you met him in the street and some respectable person (man or woman) passed he would at once begin to tell you something bad of them. He certainly was the worst man I knew in this respect. So bad was he that I threatened to kick him if he ever dared to speak to me again. Every year he was worse and worse and he always said he could see a little man looking over his shoulder. He was seized with apoplexy when seeing a patient in Culver St, (and I am glad to say he never spoke again), he was carried home and died. He was the most hateful person I ever knewö (P.Laver).
